The challenge
Awen had to be two things that don’t always go together: a creative brand people take seriously, and a producer that actually pulls off the events. A brand that can’t deliver — or an event nobody remembers — isn’t worth much.
The idea
Awen is an old word for divine inspiration — the spark of a creative experience. That’s the studio’s whole purpose: to inspire those experiences, at the intersection of the creator economy, innovative technology, and governance. I co-founded Awen and lead the creative — one identity calm enough to carry across screens, stages, signage, and social without coming apart. Most of the work is collaboration: venues, speakers, production teams, and partners like Intersect, whose North American Community Hub we powered inside their own brand.
Ownership & the creator economy
One pillar is helping independent artists actually own their work. Through Sync.Land we built direct, artist-to-creator music licensing; and with Stuff.io we released my own Mie catalog — the album The Cave and the Freakshow video — as NFTs.
Film & motion
Some ideas only work on screen — a complicated subject made to land in under a minute. The films play in the Video set below; see also the Mie “Freakshow” music video.
Live & experiential
At the Cardano Summit in Berlin, I designed a performance built around the project’s governance eras — each era its own visual world, tied to a song, performed live with the Far East Trio. We also partnered with Clay Nation on the official commemorative NFT — Cullah and I wrote the jingle together; they sculpted clay figurines of us.
The thread
A lot of this is community work wearing the clothes of design — the events that work are the ones where someone leaves feeling like they belong to something.
Reach is easy to count. Connection is the thing that actually stays with people.
